The Diva's Weekly Challenge #197

I've been very busy the past few weeks filling Etsy and eBay orders, but I finally found a little pocket of downtime to tangle.

I just joined the Facebook group "Square One: Purely Zentangle", so I decided to use their current tangle with the one The Diva chose. Square One is using the tangle "Gneiss" and The Diva's challenge for this week is to use the new tangle "Arukas". I'm pleased with how it turned out. I even put it on an official Zetangle tile. Fancy me lol

Ok, back to work. Have a great week!

I'm back again!

Here's "Take 1". I was messing up so much on it that I just decided to leave it and start over. The one pictured above is my second attempt. It was supposed to have "Knightsbridge" like this one, but I messed up and had to black it out. I felt bad about wasting a Zentangle tile, so I went back and finished it.

Now I REALLY have to get back to work. ^_^;

The Diva's Weekly Challenge #195

Hi! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Mine was filled with turkey, rolls, gumbo and cake. I was in heaven. lol

Anyway, this week for The Diva's Weekly Challenge the theme was "Turning Old into New". Guest blogger Sandy Hunter, CZT asked us to take a grid based tangle and make it a free form tangle, or take a free form tangle and put it into a grid. It took me awhile to choose a tangle, but in the end I went back to a grid tangle I really like, "Maelstrom". I think I like it so much because in its grid form it looks like fabric, and I've used that line of thought in a couple of drawings.

Maelstrom in a circle diamond pattern.

Maelstrom with a variation on the circle part.

This week's challenge was a great exercise in literally thinking outside the box, which is something I need to work on. I got to a late start, but I really like how it turned out.

And the new pattern has made its way into my new reference book. *^_^*

Thanks for stopping by!

Zentangle Class #1

Today I attended a Zentangle® class given by Diane CZT, and had a great time. I learned a few new tangles, and learned the steps to a couple I've seen but didn't feel like tackling before today. Diane is a great teacher with a wealth of knowledge. I'm really looking forward to attending future classes.

New tangles: Springkle, Arukas and Zander.
With Zander we worked on adding shine (I forgot the technical term ^_^;)

Tangles Diane broke down for me: Rick's Paradox, Betweed and Rixty.
I had a lot of fun drawing Rick's Paradox.

At the end, when you consider the tangible and intangible, I left with a lot more than I came with.

The Diva's Weekly Challenge #194

Over at "I am the Diva", this week's guest blogger, Eliza Murphy, CZT 15, challenged us to "Embrace the Yuck". We had to tangle, shade and blend with our non-dominant hand. Needless to said, it was a rough challenge. Since we weren't given tangle patterns to use, I decided to go to tanglepatterns.com and use two of the random patterns that were picked for the day: Reflections and Podz. It took me FOR-E-VER to draw this, and I guess it didn't help that I used tangles I haven't drawn before. The shading looks bleh (I expected as much), but I like the way the patterns on the inside of the tangles turned out. Despite using my left hand, I really like Reflections and Podz. I'll have to try them again... with my right hand. ^_^;

The Diva's Weekly Challenge #193

Since the Thanksgiving holiday is right around the corner, guest blogger Holly Atwater, CZT of ha! designs challenged us to create a "TriTangle" called THX (Trio, Huggins and Xyp). Get it? THX... short for "thanks"... Well I thought it was cute. Anyway! Here's mine.

I've tried Xyp before and didn't like how it turned out, but it looks much better this time.

When I look at what I came up with, it makes me think of paper puppet shows...

I kind of like it.

All Because of Zentangle

I never thought about starting a blog.
It never crossed my mind to buy archival pens.
I didn't care about shading and blending.
That is, until a few months ago, when I started tangling.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since I have ADD when it comes to arts and crafts, but even as I type this I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I can't believe I started a blog... I HATE WRITING! LOL I'm blaming it all on Zentangle and its ability to be so addictive.

Anyway, you're welcome to follow me down the rabbit hole. Are you ready? Let's go!
